The UNC Tarhealers is a group of UNC health professional students, health professionals and community members that join together every year to raise money for and ride 100 miles on their bikes in the Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina (the Alliance) HIV/AIDS Walk and Ride.
The Tarhealers team was started in 2008 by UNC medical student Ben Kirkley with a handful of dedicated riders while he was working for the UNC AIDS Clinical Trials Unit. With help from medical school classmate Matthew Wetschler in 2010, the Tarhealers grew to over 30 riders with team jerseys and local sponsors. The Tarhealers team has been a prominent group at the AIDS Walk and Ride the last 2 years.
they have achieved success by partnering with several local businesses as sponsors for the team including their primary sponsor Open Eye Café along with Granville Towers, Carrboro Family Medicine and Summa Consultants.
The ride is Saturday May 5th, 2012 in downtown Raleigh. The ride is co-hosted by Out Raleigh this year and there will be fun events for the entire family going on in the Fayetville St. Mall area all day, so come out and join the fun. You can donate on their team page at the following website: http://support.aas-c.org/site/TR/Events/General?pg=team&fr_id=1060&team_id=2210
